Mind Body and Spirit Fairs – Are they a thing of the past? |
|
| The Re-Enlightenment |
There has been a proliferation in recent years of Mind Body and Spirit Fairs. Every where you look there are adverts for these events. But are we in danger of overkill?
The original idea of having a variety of natural and spiritual therapies, lectures, workshops and private readings all under one roof was dual purpose: to introduce people in general to the idea of natural, holistic therapies and to introduce an element of spirituality back into their lives. It also helped to promote spiritualism as a serious philosophy that offered a viable alternative way to live. However, there are only so many times people will visit these events. There are only so many times you can have a reading or try out different therapies. Whilst many of these events raised money for charity others, whose motives are less pure, saw them as an extremely profitable enterprise in all sorts of ways.
Whereas previous perceptions of spiritualism verged from scepticism to ridicule, the present perception is that of charlatans and those who are in it to make a quick buck.
It seems that spiritualism, like anything else that becomes main stream, has been hijacked by those who just want to use and abuse it. Surely the whole ethos of spirituality is in what you give not what you take?
