From 24 years of domestic violence to BSc Hons, MA Phil and published author, Carole McEntee-Taylor turned her life round in 7 years. The turning point came at the age of 42, when her best friend died and she was given spiritual healing by a colleague.

 

‘It was like I suddenly woke up and realised what was going on in my life and once I knew I could no longer block it out, I had to do something about it’.

 

The transition wasn’t easy. It took her 5 months to get her partner to move out of the house. Having run away from her first husband who was violent, she was determined not to be homeless again. She was also determined not to make the same mistake again. To ensure that didn’t happen meant examining the reasons she and many other women went from one bad relationship to another and understanding why. This was the beginning of The Re-Enlightenment Trilogy. The first draft, from which the first two books are derived, were written in 2000 as she discovered her own healing and mediumship abilities.

 

As with many women the most dangerous time came 5 months later when her ex partner violently assaulted her. The case never came to court because he had himself admitted to a psychiatric hospital and because she realised that sending him to prison was not the answer. This would have just given him more reason to want revenge for her leaving him. She realised that he could only intimidate her if she let him and the best way to break free was to make a completely new life for herself.

 

She moved from Canvey to Benfleet, went back to using her maiden name and found herself a job in a nursing home to get herself back in employment. Then, using the skills she had acquired as Secretary and then temporary Chairman of the Castle Point Tenants Association, she went to work for Basildon District Council. They were extremely supportive and encouraged her to finish her degree.

 

In the meantime, her ex continued to cause her problems, but the inner strength derived from her new understanding of the reasons behind her life, helped her through. In December 2002 she decided that it was time to look for someone else to share her life. Having a fair idea of the direction her life should go she knew that her future partner would also have to be a medium and healer. Using her own developing psychic abilities she advertised in The Spirit Messenger for a partner. After six months she had heard nothing. Then, two months after the advert expired and 10 weeks before her birthday she was told by her spiritual guides that a surprise would arrive on the day before her birthday in the form of a letter. On the 24^th October, the day before her birthday, she received a letter from David who had been told to look through back copies of the Spirit Messenger for his new partner. In December 2002 she moved to Tollesbury and in July 2003 they were married. David became a Spiritualist Minister shortly after and last year Carole and David converted their garage into a healing sanctuary where they teach healing, mediumship and spiritual philosophy as well as beginner groups. They also hold monthly clairvoyant/spiritual services in West Mersea and Kelvedon.

 

The Re-Enlightenment was published in May 2007 to excellent reviews in the Psychic Press and on Psychic websites like Essex Spirit Guide. It offers answers to the questions we all ask: who am I, why am I here and is there a God and has two chapters on frequently asked questions to do with mediumship, healing and spiritualism in general.

The Re-Enlightenment II is finished, artwork pending and will be published next year. Carole is due to start her PhD next year and has just passed her driving test at the first attempt. Her life changed at the age of 42, something she attributes to the healing that gave her the strength she needed to take back control of her life.
